This Privacy Policy describes how Elayne Petterson (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the CrowSpeak Language Practice mobile application (the “App”).

Summary
- Account data: We collect identifiers like your email (and basic profile info from Google Sign-In) to create and manage your account.
- Practice content: We store the text and audio you submit for language practice.
- Private by default: Your practice content is private and is not shared with other users.
- Analytics and diagnostics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand usage and improve reliability. We may add crash reporting (such as Firebase Crashlytics) and performance monitoring (such as Firebase Performance Monitoring) in the future.
- Subscriptions: The App offers a free tier and a Pro subscription (monthly or yearly). Payments are processed by Apple; we store only your subscription tier and status, not payment details.
- Notifications: If you enable daily reminders, we store your notification preference and reminder time on your device and in your account settings.
- Ads: If we show ads, we intend to use contextual ads and not cross-app tracking (this may change in the future; we’ll update this policy if it does).
- Deletion: If you delete your account, we delete your practice history (including audio and text). Deletion may take up to 30 days to fully propagate.
- Age: The App is intended for users 13 and older.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: email address; and if you sign in with Google, information provided by Google (typically an identifier and basic profile information such as your name and email).
- Profile information: name and username (if you choose to provide them).
- Practice content: text and audio recordings you submit as part of language practice quests.
- Notification preferences: whether you have enabled daily reminders and your preferred reminder time, if you choose to set them.
- Support/feedback: information you include if you submit feedback or contact support.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: how you interact with the App (e.g., features used, basic engagement events).
- Device and technical data: device type, operating system version, app version, and similar diagnostic information.
- Crash and performance data: crash reports and performance measurements to help us debug and improve stability.
- Subscription status: your current subscription tier (free or Pro) and expiration date, derived from transaction verification with Apple.
Microphone and audio
If you choose to record audio in the App, the App will request permission to access your device microphone. Audio you submit is uploaded and stored in Firebase Storage.
How We Use Information
- Provide and operate the App: authenticate users, save progress, and deliver core functionality.
- Store and retrieve your practice history: so you can view past entries and continue your learning journey.
- Improve the App: monitor usage and performance to fix bugs and improve features.
- Communicate with you: respond to support requests and important service messages.
- Safety and security: prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
We use service providers to operate the App. These providers process information on our behalf according to their terms and privacy policies. In particular, we use Google Firebase products, which may include:
- Firebase Authentication (account sign-in)
- Cloud Firestore (database for account/profile and practice metadata)
- Firebase Storage (audio uploads)
- Cloud Functions for Firebase (backend logic)
- Firebase Analytics (usage analytics)
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting; may be enabled in the future)
- Firebase Performance Monitoring (performance metrics; may be enabled in the future)
We also use Apple's App Store and StoreKit to process subscription payments. Apple handles all payment transactions; we do not store your payment card details. We receive a cryptographic transaction token from Apple which we verify to determine your subscription tier and status.
Ads
The App may display ads in the future. If we do, we currently intend to use contextual advertising and not cross-app tracking. If our advertising approach changes (for example, we introduce personalized ads or tracking), we will update this Privacy Policy and any in-app disclosures required by law.
Legal requirements
We may share information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights and safety of our users or others, investigate fraud or security issues, or respond to lawful requests.
Data Retention
We retain account information and practice content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. We may retain limited information where required for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Account Deletion
If you delete your account, we will delete your user history, including stored text and audio practice content. Deletion may take time to propagate through our systems and backups and may take up to 30 days.
Your Choices
- Access and update: You can update certain profile fields in the App.
- Delete your account: You can request deletion from within the App (if available) or by contacting us.
- Microphone: You can enable or disable microphone access in your device settings. If disabled, audio recording features may not work.
- Notifications: You can disable daily reminders at any time in the App settings or in your device's notification settings.
Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
International Users
The App is currently intended for users in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
California Residents
California law gives California residents the right to request what personal information we collect, how we use it, and to whom we disclose it. You may also request deletion of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information. To make a request, contact us at support@crowspeaklanguage.com.
Subscriptions
The App offers a free tier and a Pro subscription (available monthly or yearly). Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We store your subscription tier and expiration date to determine which features and tracks you can access. We do not store payment card information. If you cancel a subscription, your access continues until the end of the current billing period, after which your account reverts to the free tier.
Future Features (Transcripts)
We may add features in the future such as audio transcription. If we do, we will update this Privacy Policy to describe any new data collected, how it is used, and your choices.
Security
We take reasonable measures designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and may provide additional notice in the App if required.
